About the Artist
Meet the Artist
Hello beautiful souls, my name is Nia Nicks. I am a multidisciplinary mixed media artist living in Louisiana. I am also a licensed social worker and therapist. I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana.
My Beginnings
After Hurricane Katrina, I began painting and creating in art therapy at the tender age of 10. Art gave me solace through the COVID 19 pandemic and lockdown. Art granted me peace and serenity while grieving the loss of my father. Art has helped me cope with crises, hardships, and pain. I believe art is a healer, coping skill, resource, and source of hope.
My Mission
As a licensed social worker, artist, and therapist, my mission is to use art as a healing and therapeutic tool. I aspire to merge artistic expression and mental wellness. My core values are to heal, inspire, and create.
Professional Experience
I have dedicated my life to serving and understanding humanity. I studied the social sciences and graduated from Dillard University in 2016. I went on to earn a Masters in Social Work from Tulane University in 2017. Upon graduation, I worked under art and expressive therapists in an inpatient psychiatric mental health hospital, Anchor Hospital, in College Park, Georgia. I am currently a social work Ph.D. student at Louisiana State University. My plan is to further my education in expressive therapy to implement the arts in my social work practice.
